Salary
McCoy Drilling and Completions designs, manufactures, services and sells drilling and completion equipment for the global energy industry. This division operates out of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; Broussard and Lafayette, Louisiana; and Houston, Texas. The Houston office includes the international sales and marketing team, an engineer design group and provides calibration services to many of McCoy’s Houston based customers.
We have an opening for two (2) Project Designers who will report to the Product Director (Handling Tools). The individual will be responsible for project design, development and management. This includes production of design layouts, detail drawings, material specifications and structured Bill of Material for assemblies.
The Project Designer provides assistance to manufacturing/service division by delivering complete design solution packages for production and technical support during the manufacturing process and the end customer benefit by delivering a well planned and documented tool.
Responsibilities:
- Develop layouts, material specifications, detail drawings and BOM for components for assemblies and tools (60%)
- Work as a team leader to design, develop assigned projects and monitor the team (10%)
- Provide rapid shop support to production departments including NCR, REA and ECN (15%)
- Provide support to shop during testing and documenting as built configurations to update BOM (10%)
- Technical support interface for sales and the end customer (5%)
- Maintain assigned equipment and work area in accordance with procedures and standards
- React to change productively, work as member of team and handle other tasks as assigned
- 40-50 hours per week, office environment with shop floor support and minimal travel
- During absences this person or position fills in for the Design Engineer and/or the Senior Project Engineer
Qualifications:
- 4 year degree in Industrial Technology or equivalent program (depending upon course work and area of concentration or a minimum 3+ yrs of related technical experience
- AutoCAD, Solidworks (or other 3D modeling), MS Office, Word and Excel
- Practical knowledge of engineering technology as it applies to mechanical design and production of various goods
- Knowledge of design techniques and production of precision technical plans
- Use of engineering math to solve problems
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Basic project management and organization skills
